The Battle Continues As ‘Plants Vs. Zombies 2: It’s About Time’ Releases This July! (Trailer)

The first trailer for PopCap Games follow up to the incredibly addicting Plants Vs. Zombies debuted earlier today. Plants Vs. Zombies 2: It’s All About Time will release exclusively (for now at least) on iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch this July. Check out the trailer after the jump!

Although the trailer doesn’t show any actual gameplay, it does give us a few glimpses at some new Plants as well as the general theme of the sequel. It looks like Time Travel will play a big role in the sequel as will travel to many different worlds across time and space.  Now while I normally would not trust a guy named Crazy Dave when it comes to messing with the threads of time, he did help us save the world the first time with his “mad botany skills”. So he has earned the the benefit of the doubt in my eyes.

Regarding the Plants, we got a glimpse of 2 new units. The first was some sort of Boomerang Plant (I wouldn’t be surprised if that ends up being the name) which I think can be pretty interesting considering that it will more than likely attack in an arc. The second was some sort of a fighting cabbage. Which I am assuming will be useful for close range combat due to its proficiency in fisticuffs.

According to IGN, PopCap has promised us all new touch screen power-ups as well as a way to “break the fourth wall” and allow us to interact directly in some way with the zombies themselves as well as our own plants. The game will be a “free-to-play” download and to noones surprise will allow player to purchase upgrades in order to beef up the gameplay options. So don’t be surprised if you will have to fork over some cash for a lot of these new features or plants. I just hope that buying all of the upgrades or features does not end up being ridiculously expensive when compared to the entry price of the original.

Although I came to the PvZ party pretty late the first time around when it was released on Xbox Live Arcade, I can assure you that I won’t be making the same mistake this time around. I had so much fun and spent countless hours with the original (XBLA and on iOS) that this is a day one download for me.
