So Much Gaming, So Little Time
March 21st, 2010 |Oh, Sonic & Sega All-Star Racing, what a nice little surprise you were. I dare say you’re a better game than Mario Kart due to the fact that you are much more fair than Mario Kart. It also saddens me that this is probably the funnest Sonic game I’ve played since… well, we’ll just say, “a long time”.
So, as my colleague has already pointed out, we’re only in March and there have already been a multitude of games out to destroy our wallets and bank accounts. Just now, I’m in the middle of beating God of War III – which is totally titillating, to say the least – and this is as I was just shy of not conquering Bayonetta – an almost equally titillating game, with absolutely no pun intended. Yes, that’s right. The game that released in… January, I believe, I just now had the chance to run through it, and this was purely baby-steps, mind you, as I also had a hand in trying out some Darksiders, some MLB 10 the Show, a good amount of Tatsunoko VS Capcom, Final Fantasy XIII, and, in light of the start of the Rock Band Network, some more Rockband 2, as I always welcome new music.
Notice how I don’t remember when the hell Bayonetta came out. Everything has been so close together that it’s hard for me to even remember when I placed my hand on that beautiful and deadly witch. My mind wants to go “way back when”, when in reality, it was practically yesterday when the industry unloaded ten or so games on me, at once, all expecting me to practically surrender my cash on hand, (which is normally $0). This is still just fine and dandy to me.
“But Luis,” you ask, bewildered, “you speak of this as a bad thing and yet you rejoice? Why?”
Simply, my dear friend, because I don’t think there has ever been such a strong start to a year in our industry. I mean, myself, I would say last year was phenomenal because of the fact that Street Fighter IV released, but that is mostly due to the fact that I am a hardcore Street Fighter junkie – trust me, I will be dead to the world and Marcos will probably be drawing the comics come the end of April, ya’ll bitches on your own after Super comes out. Seriously though, the last big one I remember was the year Bioshock released. The other? When Resident Evil 4 released. Those were in the beginning of the year, and if I remember correctly, those were some crazy-ass years, and as much as I cried, clutching on to my monies, on the inside, I was happy, smiling purely in glee, because I had an ever growing amount of entertainment that would totally immerse me in fun, and in some cases, make me want to scream and throw things. Mostly the fun, though.
Anyway, enough talk of the times to come. Kratos calls me. There are some more depraved souls that need smashing. Because they looked at me funny.
